Cruises |
For
a group of 20 persons or more, the Council will arrange
on request a backwater cruise to Alappuzha. The Council
also provides motor, row and pedal boats on hire. An adventure
park is maintained by the Council. It is open from 5.00
am to 6.30 pm on all days. Alleppey
Tourism Development Co-operative Society conducts a boat
cruise from Kollam to Alappuzha on Tuesday and Saturday
which leaves at 9.45 am. Tickets are issued on the boat
itself. |

There
is a Power Boat Rally organised by the Kochi Aquatic Club
in the month of October, from Kochi to Kollam. It is of

| SIGHTSEEING |
|
| Ariankavu
(70 km) |
It
is on the Kollam-Shenkottai road. The chief attraction is
a shrine dedicated to Lord Sastha. The 'Mandala Pooja' and
'Trikalyanam' (December) are main festivals at this temple.
Five km from Ariankavu is a waterfall known as Palaruvi.
There are frequent buses to Ariankavu from Kollam. There
is an Inspection Bungalow of the PWD at Palaruvi. |

There
is a shrine dedicated to Lord Sastha here. The Vishnu Mahotsava
in April/ May is an important festival here. There are buses
from Kollam to Kulathupuzha and the railway station at Thenmala
is 10 km away. |
| Mayyanad
(10 km) |
It
is noted for its shrines and temples. There are nine temples
and the most important is the one at Umayanalloor. There
are frequent buses from Kollam to Mayyanad. |
| Sasthamkotta
(29 km) |
The
extensive fresh waterlake. here is the largest of its kind
in Kerala. There is also an ancient temple dedicated to
Lord Sastha here. There are frequent bus services and the
journey takes an hour. Accommodation is available in a PWD
Rest House. |
| Thangassery
(5 km) |
It
is a place of historical importance with ancient churches
built in the 18th century. There is a lighthouse and visitors
are permitted to visit it between 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm. There
are frequent buses from Kollam and the trip takes 15 minutes. |
| Thirumullavaram
(6 km) |
The
beach here is very beautiful with good facilities. It is
connected by bus services. |
